I enjoyed building a collection of formulas for bath salts last year and researching for information about just why this old body treat would make a bit of difference.
Bath salts and a good soak benefits our skin (body’s largest organ) in these ways:
- Draws impurities (even bacteria) away from the surface of our skin
- Encourage new growth through exfoliation
- Soothes some issues such as eczema and psoriasis
- Relieves irritation from insect bites and stings
- Improve imbalance of moisture
The practice of a healthy bath salt soak benefits our soul by:
- Becoming a time for relaxation and meditation—deep rest in a lounge of deep water in the tub
- Relief from stress and tension, permitting a better rest after either a long lounge in the tub or surprisingly a shorter 15-20 minute soak.
Don’t underestimate the benefits of a micro-soak for your feet in a plastic dishpan. It can be almost as restful and restorative as the whole body soak.
Speedy Balance for You == Epsom Salt Bath

- 6 tblsp baking soda
- Optional: 8 drops of essential oil such as geranium, bergomot, lavender, rose, orange.
Blend all the ingredients in a jar that you can close with a good lid. Add some of this mix to your next tub of extra warm running water. Then add yourself to the tub and enjoy!
